NISAR AHMAD
Am looking at the Azad Kashmir elections and quite baffled at the results. In my opinion, the results of elections give a very penetrating insight into the political psychology of Pakistani public. The underdeveloped and less informed majority is not ready to tread the untroden paths no matter how much they suffer at the hands of bad governance, mismanagement and unchecked corruption of the present political and security regime. Such people are not only compromising their present but also the future of the coming generations. The educated and informed segment of society needs to fight against this mindset. If such trends are allowed to continue, Pakistan is not going to develope as a vibrant and modern state. We will rather degress into past. The superficial slogans of modernism and development lead towards past oriented reactionary movements which we can name as fundamentalism or whatever. In countries like Pakistan, modernism is turning into a badly failed project owing to the relative disadvantage of the less advanced regions of the world and the advantage of the developed global north at the current modus oprandi of sharing the fruits of modernity. The most logical response to this failure is general disdain with the project of modernity and nostalgic regression towards romantic golden era of past which tends to be idealized. Therefore, in order to steer Pakistan out of this vicious cycle, we need to fight against such mentality and strive to tread the untroden paths to help entrust the decision making responsibility of nation to the fresh laeders who can tackle the issues effectively and efficiently with zealous and patriotic dedication.
